How Do Car Inverters Work?

Car inverters function by using a unidirectional DC power source to mimic an alternating current (AC) power source. Electronic inverters are essentially oscillators that rapidly switch the polarity of the DC power source, which effectively creates a square wave.

Since most consumer electronics require something closer to a true sine wave, most inverters include additional components that create either a modified or pure sine wave.

The output power of the most common on-vehicle inverters currently on the market is 70W-150W, and pulse width modulation circuits based mainly on TL494 or KA7500 chips are used in the inverter circuit. The whole circuit of the vehicle-mounted inverter can be roughly divided into two major parts. Each part uses a TL494 or KA7500 chip to form a control circuit. The first part of the circuit is to apply the 12V DC provided by car batteries, etc., through the high-frequency PWM. (Pulse Width Modulation) switching power supply technology converts to 30kHz-50kHz, 220V AC; the second part of the circuit is the use of bridge rectifier, filter, pulse width modulation and switching power output technology, will 30kHz ~ 50kHz, 220V The left and right AC power is converted into 50Hz and 220V AC power.
